I worked with Nick Stringer for years at Channel 4 and was always struck by his unwavering good judgment - he could see a good idea in a flash and if it wasn't quite right, he had a sense of how to make it better.  He magically got the best work out of the best people, perhaps because of his respect for the creative process.  One always knew he would defend an idea and put up a fight with the powers that be when necessary, but at the same time be very clear when an idea wasn't worth fighting for. And he was invariably right.

He isn't afraid to follow his instincts, and that is of course where the best ideas flourish. It was really a no brainer to join the The Unquiet Film Series years later, and really all credit for these films lies with Nick. The series for The Times was his idea and he curated it with deft leadership. He gave us the space to develop our vision as directors, and met us always with integrity and intelligence.

When one works with Nick, there is a feeling of striving to meet his expectations somehow, and so one always does the best work for him.  I'm not really sure how to quantify it, but it's a special thing. And the more people I work with the more I realise what a rare and unique talent Nick Stringer is.
